Little Green Wedding Cake

We had a lovely couple get married at our church yesterday, but they weren't really going to have much in the way of pomp, so some of the ladies got together and put together a small reception afterwards. Of course I had to make a cake as well. =) The most difficult part of this cake was that I didn't realize how many flowers it would take to cover it....so many!!! I have always wanted to do something like this, so I had a great time doing it. Top and bottom tiers are chocolate cake and chocolate frosting, the center tier is just a yellow vanilla cake with the chocolate frosting.

The Super Hero cake

Here is a cake I did for a little boys birthday. This was hard for me because I was trying to copy someone else's cake photo. For one thing, the other baker clearly had better tools (story of my life). And another thing is that I am such a wing it kind of gal. I won't like something on a cake and change it half way through. I couldn't really change anything on this. But it turned out and I am glad its not in my fridge any more!

Yellow Wedding Cake

This is a wedding cake I made this last week. I used a technique called brush embroidery or royal icing embroidery. I love the graduating colors, but I also think this concept would be fabulous in a base color and have the royal icing white over the whole cake.

The flavors are chocolate cake and chocolate cream filling and yellow/vanilla cake with raspberry glaze and a white chocolate cream filling. It was hard not to eat it!!

Mermaid Cake

Mermaid made from a mix of marshmallow fondant and gum paste. I gave her hair a nice shimmer.

Here is a cake that I did for a little girl's birthday. I really had fun doing this. Putting all the pieces together made this a fun, exciting project, as I saw it come together. Its a basic strawberry cake, with butter cream icing and filling. The mermaid, fish, and octopus are made of fondant and some gumpaste. The seaweed and coral are made from royal icing. The sand is delicious....made from chocolate candies and sugar.

This is a graduation cake I made. It is two butter pecan cakes stacked on top of each other, covered in butter cream frosting, and chocolate fondant. They had a dulce de leche cream filling. The skeleton (or "Dooley", unofficial mascot to Emory University) is made of gum paste and a wire frame.

I spent a few days on the cake itself, but the skeleton was started last week. I had to work on one set of bones, then let it dry before I could do the next set of bones. I will admit, "Dooley" and I had a few run-ins. The gum paste is super brittle and easily cracked. He had a few rib replacements as well as a jaw adjustment. But in the end he made it!

Chocolate Cupcakes

Chocolate cupcakes I made for my husbands club fundraiser. I haven't done a ton of cupcakes and I really wanted to try some basic designs that I have seen here and there. They turned out nicely. I think a cream filling inside the cupcake would have been a fun surprise. I enjoy trying new ideas and techniques.

These had toffee bits in the middle. I thought it would be cute to call them "toffee flowers", and if I ever opened a shop I could have a whole line of different types of  candy filled cupcakes for all the sweet 'tooths' out there. I think my favorite would have butter-finger crumbles in it and the frosting would be whipped topping instead of frosting. I can taste it now....jeez, now I need a treat. =)

Here I have some mini cupcakes with fondant flowers and white chocolate decorations. These babies are perfect little bite sized treats.

Royal Icing Technique

This is a royal icing technique that I have been working on. I will continue to add pictures to this post as I practice this skill. I really like working with royal icing. It is a very versatile medium.

I am using this technique for a wedding cake I will be doing in June, but one of the ribbons I ordered seemed more orange than yellow, so I was trying to see how it looked. Its hard to say if this color will work, it really depends on how it compares with the other yellows, so stay tuned for the final product!!

Pink Baby Shower Cake

This cake was for a baby shower. The flowers are hand crafted from gum paste and painted with edible shimmer. The butterflies and lettering were also from gum paste. The cake was chocolate with a caramel and cream filling. It was covered in vanilla buttercream and marshmallow fondant.

The little shimmery flower in the bottom left hand corner of this picture was actually made by my duaghter. She really loves getting a chance to help mom. Good job sweetie!

Lady Bug

This was for a little girl's birthday. I did a strawberry cake with white chocolate cream filling.

This was my first time using wires with my gumpaste flowers. It worked, but next time I'll read the instructions. =)

Three Tiered Wedding Cake

This was my first wedding cake. It was an intense learning experience. I am really glad I was able to do it. The top two tiers were butter pecan cake with a cream and dulce de leche filling, and the bottome tier was a yellow cake with a white chocolate cream and sliced fresh strawberries in a home made strawberry glaze.

Hand made gumpaste gerber daisies.

"Jessica, our wedding cake was FANTASTIC! We were SO impressed. Not only was it beautiful and exactly what we hoped for, but it was delicious! We took the rest of the cake on our honeymoon and ate it all week.... We were thrilled."

Flower Basket

Basket O' Flowers
Chocolate cake and cream filling.

'Relief Society' birthday cake

Yellow cake covered in white buttercream, filled with fudge frosting. (gotta love the fridge shot)

Circus Baby Shower cake

Another fun and cute baby shower cake. This was yellow cake with a white chocolate cream filling, layered with strawberry glaze and fresh sliced strawberries.
A crib cake - for a baby shower.

Bridal Shower Cake

For a bridal shower. Chocolate cake with cheesecake and raspberry fillings.

'Tooth' Cake

My biggest deal yet. Each tooth was a different flavor of cake and filling. The front teeth were actually made out of ricecrispie treats! My personal faves were numbers 30 and 26. =)
Simple gum paste flowers used on a formal cake. I actually used a new recipe for yellow cake that turned out to be my new best friend.

This cake was for a special little girl just about to get baptized.
Combining buttercream roses and simple, fondant flower cut outs. Keeps things simple and elegant.
This was a simple, yet fun cake made for a baby shower. The fabric butterflies made for a nice whimsical touch.
Basket O' Flowers

This was a 6' chocolate cake covered in chocolate icing with a basket weave. The cream filling was to die for.
This was one of my first gum paste flower. I love making edible flowers. They add an artistic expression that fresh flowers can't, because you can create any kind of flower, color or size!
